On Tuesday, November 7, there will be a Revenue Purpose Statement (RPS) on the ballot for the Roland-Story Community School District.
Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE), also known as the statewide one-cent sales tax for education, has been extended by the state legislature through the year 2050. This legislation allows school districts to ask voters to approve a RPS to continue investing state sales tax funds in school infrastructure projects.
The funds provided through SAVE help us cover a variety of facility maintenance and repair needs throughout the school year. Our district has used this money in the past for the following purposes:
- Annual technology updates for our students and staff
- Vehicle purchases, including buses and vans to transport students
- Roof replacements
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning repairs and upgrades
- General maintenance projects and repairs such as carpet, flooring and painting
- Payments toward existing bond debt
It is important to note that an approved RPS would NOT lead to an increase in local property or sales taxes. It would NOT create a new tax or extend an existing tax. What it does is simply allow the flexibility to use SAVE funds in a manner most effective for our district.
As always, thank you for your support of the Roland-Story and the students we serve!
