RSMS Votes!

One of the 8th-grade social standards is to examine the responsibilities of a United States Citizen.  One of the most basic responsibilities we have as citizens is to vote.  The 8th graders conducted a mock election, running for the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, senator, and representative for the great state of RSMS.  Platforms were developed, campaign speeches were delivered, and political ads were shown. A primary election was held on February 9, in which all the students voted.  This narrowed the candidates from 11 pairs to 4.

The General Election was held on Thursday, February 22.  Polls were open from 8:35 A.M. to 8:55 A.M. in the respective districts.  Students had to register to vote and show school-generated identification at their polling place to be able to vote.

Thank you to Roland-Story PTO for purchasing the voting booth dividers and the "I Voted" stickers.  Thank you to Mr. Padget and Mrs. Lee for setting up the computers in the polling places.  Thank you to Mrs. Hagedorn and Ms. Babbock for creating the "official" identification cards and voting signs.
